Back Story
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to pack up my usual ruttiness and go to Las Vegas for the weekend. You see Michelle (My Fiancé) and I were to meet her mother in Vegas for a weekend of fun, friends, and a wedding. We were driving out from Southern California and Michelle's mother was flying into Vegas from Northern California, we were staying at the end of the strip at the Tropicana.
The hotel was in the process of a huge remodel to rescue it from fading into Las Vegas history. That meant two things: the hotel pool was not in existence any more and the hotel still retained some feeling of nostalgia. Some people in the wedding party we were there to meet had gotten the upgrade to the newly opened Tropicana tower. There fore they were not privy to the true history that makes this palace of illusions that is Las Vegas the piece of American gold that it once was.
...what do expect for 50 bucks, Wayne Newton's socks next to the bible in the dresser drawer...
This is what I was thinking as we walked with the bell boy to our dank and some what dirty room on the third floor. I mean what do expect for 50 bucks, Wayne Newton's socks next to the bible in the dresser drawer. After seeing a large red stain on the carpeting that resembled blood or red wine we decided to ask for an upgrade. After upgrading we found ourselves on the eleventh floor in the exact same room but this time no red wine stain.
We were in town to do two things attend a friends wedding and walk around for hours drunk not knowing really what to do. I had my camera with me and do to the over stimulating nature of our environment I shot way too many photos. Below is the detail view our Visit with Las Vegas.
A place you can have anything at any time, a playground with endless boundaries - a palace of disappointment, testament to air conditioning and water ways - an understanding of the human condition in ways we do not understand - a weekend in Vegas, a wedding and reason to go back.
I just want to say thanks to Katherine, Brandon and family for having me to their wonderful and loving party. Thanks guys for allowing me to put these very personal moments here and again congratulations!
