About this episode:
In 1998 Chris Wells and I (Mike Rusczyk) were living Chicago, skateboarding a lot and trying to make art. Chris was attending UIC University of Illinois Chicago, studying conceptual art. I was bumming around sleeping on floors, trying to skate as much as possible.
Around this time, Chris had a college radio show that aired from 11:30 to 2:00 am. Chris ended up calling his show Creative Output.
Much like most student run radio stations we played a lot of indy rock and obscure finds, juxtaposing them in an interesting manner. Sometimes I would hang out and help with the show. We played things in a round robin fashion. We got really in to making street recordings with small tape recorders and eventually minidisc recorders. The studio had a large mixing-board, turntables, microphones, cd players and tape decks. We would live-mix samples, music, interviews and street recordings trying to make the show a seamless audio event.
This episode was an attempt to revisit this process, we made this recording during the summer 2005 at The Glennbrook House in Santa Rosa, California.
Hope you enjoy it and look for more archives of Creative Output in the future.
