One of my first attempts working with a woven

March 12, 2010 Artical by Jessica Domino

I shot these images with Film...
No Photoshop.

A foreshadowing of things to come. The beginning. An "awe" inspiring dress with no zipper training and a stubborn material that doesn't seem to want to stretch. Raw dress means raw film with a twist. I don't exactly remember my formula but it involved salt and a broiler. Let it bake! Rough cuts, hand-stitched, puffy paint and fingers makes for the beginning of a style to call my own.

Attempts with a non-stretch woven can prove fatal. Creatively. The hole was not entirely intentional. In a effort to try the dress on, my fat body ripped a hole in it. Instead of fixing the problem, I was inspired to move in a different direction. My holes are now intentional and functional.

"A woven is a cloth formed by weaving. It only stretches in the bias directions (between the warp and weft directions), unless the threads are elastic. Woven cloth usually frays at the edges, unless measures are taken to counter this, such as the use of pinking shears or hemming. Most cloth in use is woven. Woven material is generally used for hats like top hats and caps."

Film is the BEST!
